QUEST TO THE LONELY MOUNTAIN
By Philip Tseros
“Today, I, Larry, will be interviewing Mr Bilbo Baggins. Mr Baggins will be joining us and we will be interviewing him. And here he comes!”
“So Mr Baggins, we will be asking you some questions about yourself and you will answer truthfully, unless you don’t want to answer them.”
“Yep. So what will the questions be about?”
“The questions will be about your journey with the dwarves and your quest to the Lone Mountain.”
QUESTIONS ABOUT BEFORE THE JOURNEY
“So the first question is; did you ever think you would be part of a party of Dwarves?”
“Well Larry, the answer to that question would have to be no. I never thought that I would once be part of a party of dwarves.”
“So Mr Baggins, the next question we want to know is; did you have a relationship with Gandalf prior to the quest?”
“Yes Larry. Gandalf and I used to be best of friends way before he came along and told me about the quest.”
“So that’s how he came to find you is it Mr Baggins? He didn’t just pop up at your place and tell you without knowing who he was?”
“Yes that’s right, Gandalf and I go way back.”
“So, Mr Baggins, one of the most wanted questions that was wanted to be asked by the audience was what was the reason the dwarves wanted you to be part of their quest? Was it their idea for you to come along or was it Gandalf’s idea?”
“The answer to that question Larry is that they needed a thief. The job that I had to do was to find the Arkenstone and bring it to Thorin.”
QUESTIONS ABOUT QUEST
“Well then, that is interesting. But why did Gandalf give you ‘Sting’?”
“I don’t know Larry, I suppose its because he thought I might need a bit of protection because he knew what dangers lay ahead in the journey.”
“So tell us, why did you name the sword ‘Sting’?”
“Well Larry, that is an interesting question. I guess I named the sword ‘Sting’ because when we were fighting the Great Spiders, I stabbed one in the face and it said that the cut stung and that’s how I came to name the sword ‘Sting’.”
“So Mr Baggins, why didn’t you return the Ring back to Gollum? Why did you keep it? Did you know it had special powers of it’s own?”
“Well Larry, I didn’t return it to that Gollum thing because I wanted to see why he wanted it back so much and I didn’t even know that it was his until he started screaming and chasing after me and that’s when I put it on and I found out that it did have special powers of it’s own.”
“What special powers did it have?”
“Well I only knew about one power of the Ring and that was to turn people invisible and that’s the only power that I ever found out about.”
“Did you ever think that you were going to find the Arkenstone in all that gold and treasure?”
“Well, I knew that I had to find the Arkenstone and return it to Thorin. So with that thought in mind, I was able to find the Arkenstone.”
QUESTIONS ABOUT AFTER QUEST
“What was your relationship with Thorin Oakenshield after you got him the Arkenstone?”
“Well after I got him the Arkenstone, he became distant and wouldn’t talk to me much.”
“Well then. What role did you play when the dwarves were fortifying the Lonely Mountain?”
“Well I didn’t play a role in the fortification of the Lonely Mountain.”
“Why not?”
“Well it was because I tried to Ransom off the Arkenstone to try and prevent war with the Wood Elves and the Men of the River Town. When Thorin found out he Banished me so then I couldn’t help fortify the Lonely Mountain.”
“Okay, the last question today will be did your life resume to normality when you got back home?”
“No Larry, my life did not resume normality when I got back home. I had gotten my fair share of the treasure and I returned home a rich Hobbit.”
“Well, that wraps things up for today. Thank you very much for taking your time to talk to us.”
